Inside Hanoi House Cafe Zanzibar — warm orange walls, hanging plants and Vietnamese-Zanzibar interior
A little piece of Vietnam in Zanzibar

A Taste of Home,
Far From Home.

Inspired by Hanoi’s coffee culture, street food and unhurried way of life — where Kim spent twelve years of her younger days — Hanoi House brings the warmth of Vietnam to a Zanzibar afternoon.

The Story

Born in Zanzibar. Dreamed in Hanoi.

Hanoi House began with a longing — for the smell of broth simmering at dawn, for the clatter of a family kitchen, for a corner of Vietnam that could be reached from an island in the Indian Ocean.

Founded by Kim Anh, Hanoi House grew out of a personal journey of reconnecting with Vietnamese roots while living far from home. What started as recipes remembered over video calls with her mother became a kitchen, then a coffee house, then a small gathering place where two cultures meet at the same table.

Every dish is made the slow way — by hand, from family recipes, with the patience that good food asks for. We are not a restaurant chasing trends. We are a home that happens to have an open door, where travellers, neighbours and friends are welcomed the way they would be in Hanoi: with tea, with warmth, and with the quiet belief that a shared meal is never just a meal.

— with love, from our family to your table

What We Serve

Three Ways to Slow Down

More than a menu — three small worlds to step into, each one a little piece of Vietnamese daily life.

Vietnamese Kitchen

Authentic dishes drawn from home cooking and Hanoi street corners — phở built on a 24-hour broth, dumplings folded fresh each morning, herbs and chilli the way our mothers taught us.

Coffee & Slow Moments

The Vietnamese way with coffee: a phin filter, dripping in its own time, over ice or condensed milk — even the 1960s secret of egg coffee. Sit. Stay. Let the afternoon be long.

About Hanoi House Cafe

An Authentic Vietnamese Restaurant in Zanzibar

Hanoi House Cafe is an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Zanzibar, serving traditional Vietnamese food and coffee culture across two island locations — Nungwi in the north and historic Stone Town. Founded by Kim Anh of Kim Dining Concept, Hanoi House brings the flavours of Hanoi to the Indian Ocean: hand-folded dumplings, phở built on a slow 24-hour broth, fresh spring rolls, bún chả and traditional Vietnamese phin coffee.

Vietnamese Food & Coffee in Nungwi and Stone Town

If you are looking for the best Vietnamese restaurant in Zanzibar, Hanoi House offers a rare thing on the island — genuinely authentic Vietnamese cuisine, cooked from family recipes rather than adapted for tourists. Our Stone Town café sits inside a historic 1950s building on Cathedral Street, while our Nungwi location pairs Vietnamese coffee and street-food classics with the easy rhythm of beach life. Both are warm, intimate spaces designed for slow dining and good conversation.

Vietnamese Coffee Culture in Zanzibar

Coffee is at the heart of Hanoi House. We brew the Vietnamese way — a phin filter dripping slowly over ice or sweet condensed milk, alongside the famous egg coffee first created in 1960s Hanoi. It is a small daily ritual, and one of the best reasons to seek out Vietnamese coffee in Zanzibar.

Asian Food & Restaurants in Zanzibar

Among restaurants in Nungwi and restaurants in Stone Town, Hanoi House stands apart for its focus on authentic Vietnamese cuisine and broader Asian food in Zanzibar. Whether you are a traveller craving a taste of home, a first-time visitor to Vietnamese food, or simply searching for somewhere memorable to eat in Zanzibar, you are welcome at our table — to walk in, to linger, or to reserve ahead.
